Overview: The chapter looks at the basic communication process by identifying the various elements that interact with one another. You will notice the 7 key elements and guiding principles of effective communication. Evaluate yourself based upon the 7 principles- gain an understanding of your present communication skills and decide which area(s) you would like to improve.

Why do you want to study communication? Simple- it is the first step to improving your communication competence! Communication skills can help you ace the job interview, or console a friend in a time of need. This is not just another class required for your major! Don’t just learn to paraphrase the material, apply the concepts to your personal goals!
